Mike & Jim's Bios Platinum Occasions Limousine Operator Mike Murphy Platinum Occasions Resident Dj Dj Jim Mast I started Platinum Occasions Limousine back in 2003 after a bad experience securing a limousine for my own wedding. We found a great deal with a local company, and when the limo arrived, the driver didn’t speak any English! It is very difficult to be unable to communicate with the person responsible for the transportation on your wedding day! I felt that there was definitely room for me in this business. I have always owned and operated service businesses, but the limousine business fit my personality perfectly. All the while growing up, I was always the planner and the leader of events and trips. I was always really good at making things work efficiently, and making sure that everyone had fun. I have an overwhelming need to please people, and I think that my greatest asset to this business is my ability to put myself into other people’s shoes. I am usually very perceptive of people’s feelings and needs, and when I drive for weddings and other events, I assume the responsibility of making everyone feel comfortable and calm. Having now been through hundreds of weddings, I have found a variety of ways to be helpful to my customers. Not only do I pride myself on being on time, attentive to every detail of transportation, safety, and cleanliness, but I have found that adding a subtle personal and social touch to my service has really set me apart from the competition. I take pride in placing myself on a first name basis with my customer, and hope that during the event, I become just another friend in attendance. My family always told me I was the life of the party, and I always had a knack for making sure that everyone at an event had fun and felt comfortable. In the beginning I would do parties and events for friends and family, but weddings soon became my perfect fit. I am the elementary music teacher at a local private school, and I am also the church’s music director. I own and utilize a professional recording studio at home where I have written and produced music for myself as well as local bands such as The Plain White T’s and The Waiting Game. I also teach piano and guitar. I feel that being a DJ means so much more then just showing up with some music and lights. The most important part of choosing the right DJ for your wedding or other event is to make sure that the primary focus is on the guest of honor’s idea of a fun time. Some DJs are very set in their style and their music. They forget that taste in music is arbitrary. I am not a club style DJ, and that is important because a club DJ usually gives you his sound, and expects you to accept it. The club is his world, and you visit it and experience it. A really good party and wedding DJ uses music to create the atmosphere of choice for his guests. The only thing that matters to me is that the guests love what I provide regardless of whether I personally like the songs or not. What I provide is unique because I have found a way to utilize all my talents in order to create the perfect sound for my customer’s event. I use my music production equipment and talent to create a personalized and custom entrance song for each of my bride and grooms, and a CD copy of that song comes with my wedding package. You pick the song, and I will create the intro however you would like it to sound. I also offer unlimited hours in my package, and all lighting included. It is very important to me that I meet with all of my couples for a music consultation where I can answer all questions, explain all that is included in my package, and really get to know what my customers are like on a personal level.
